2024 terms and conditions

ELIGIBILITY


  1. To be eligible to enter the awards, the book must be readily available in Australia for purchase or from the author, and the author must reside in Australia or New Zealand.

  2. Books may be published via a publishing house, through self-publishing or partnership publishing, or any other publishing method that has resulted in a professional-standard book.

  3. Books must have been written by an expert, entrepreneur, businessperson or business owner who has written and published the book to demonstrate their skill, knowledge and experience in their industry or field. This includes ‘how to’ books, reference books, thought leadership books, and biographies or autobiographies in the author’s area of expertise.

  4. Books must fit into at least one of the categories.

  5. Books must be published in English.

  6. Books must be available in a print edition.

  7. All books submitted must be the original work of the author/s and the author/s agree that they have full rights to the content of the book and that there are no outstanding disputes over the publication’s copyright.

  8. All books entered must have been published between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023. ‘Published’ means the book has been first made available to the public between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023, either for sale or via the author. (Books printed during this period but not available to the public during this period are not eligible.)


CATEGORIES

Books must be entered in one or two of the following categories: 

  1. Entrepreneurship and Small Business

  2. Social Responsibility

  3. Personal Development

  4. Communications and Sales

  5. Personal Finance and Investment

  6. Management and HR

  7. Leadership

  8. Technology

  9. Health and Wellbeing

  10. General Business

All books are automatically entered into these two categories:

  1. Best Cover Design (there is an opt-out option for the Best Cover Design category during the entry process)

  2. Book of the Year.

BOOK OF THE YEAR 

The highest scoring book in each category will go into the voting for the Book of the Year. The book that then receives the most votes will be Book of the Year. If there is a tie, the books that are tied will be voted on again to determine the Book of the Year. 


ENTRY

  1. Books must be submitted as hard copies. Four copies of your book must be submitted per category entered, so if you enter two categories you must submit eight copies of your book. These will not be returned. (Books may be recycled or sold by us at a later date to raise further funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.)

  2. A PDF copy of your book must also be submitted with your entry.

  3. Books can be submitted by the author or publisher. A maximum of two different titles by the same author can be entered per year.

  4. Entry forms must be submitted and payment made by 25 August 2023 and printed books must be mailed no later than 25 August 2023.

  5. Each book must be entered in one or two categories. We reserve the right to move a book to a different category if we think it does not fit into the criteria of the category entered. Authors will be informed if their book is moved to a different category.

  6. Costs are $99 (inc. GST) per entry, which includes entry in one category. A second category can be entered for an additional $44 (inc. GST).

  7. The Book of the Year is not a standalone category and you cannot enter your book in this category.

  8. The email address submitted with your entry will be used to communicate with you about the awards. It will not be used for any other purpose.

  9. Payment is to be made via the online entry form. Your entry will not be considered if payment is not received by the date above.

  1. Our judging panel includes authors and experts in traditional publishing, self-publishing, partnership publishing, editing, design, printing, ebooks, audiobooks, bookselling and other aspects of the publishing process.

  2. Judging will be based on: suitability for market, writing quality, content, originality, knowledge of subject matter, book layout, quality of printing and production, and other criteria.

  3. Cover judging will be based on quality of design, suitability for target market, professionalism (does the book have a barcode and a logo on the spine?), originality of design, adherence to book publishing conventions, and other criteria.

  4. The winners of each category and the Book of the Year and Best Cover will be announced at an online ceremony on 21 November 2023.

  5. The highest scoring book in each category will go into the voting for the Book of the Year. The book that then receives the most votes will be Book of the Year. If there is a tie, the books that are tied will be voted on again to determine the Book of the Year. 

  6. An award and prize will be given for each winner.

  7. The judges’ decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into about the judging process or the results. You will not be informed about the score or results your book achieved, or receive feedback about your book.

  8. Judges will not be involved in judging any books for which they were involved in the writing or publishing process.

  9. If your book wins one of the categories, we may ask you for more information about you and/or your book.

  10. Each book will be assessed by three judges.
